The start of the new year saw Wellington’s Wētā FX celebrating a victory as two of its employees returned from Los Angeles over the weekend with an additional load of carry-on items – two esteemed Emmy awards. VFX Supervisor Simon Jung and Animation Supervisor Dennis Yoo secured the accolade for outstanding visual effects in a season or movie at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, recognising their contributions to the HBO series The Last of Us.
The duo expressed their excitement over the victory, which recognized their efforts primarily in depicting the infected victims in the series – the Clickers and Bloater, along with the Bostonian Museum.
Taking place over two nights on January 6 and 7, the Creative Arts Emmys preceded the Primetime Emmys by more than a week. Yoo described the ceremony as a “dress rehearsal for the big show with all the stars.”
