Pahīatua’s Regent back up and running

by NZ Herald — 18 September 2023

Pahīatua’s Regent cinema can now reopen after several months of uncertainty.

According to spokesman Peter Lea, the theatre had to close “at least six months ago” for a variety of reasons. However, he was happy to report that it will reopen this Thursday with new films.

Peter reports that a new manager has been hired to work part-time and that many volunteers have been lending a hand, for which he is grateful.

The constant help and support are frequently the only factor keeping it open. According to him, the public has been inquiring about the cinema’s position frequently, so he was well-aware of the public interest.

“People really do want the cinema to survive,” Peter says.
