The inaugural screening of a Bengali movie in Auckland went beyond being a mere cinematic event; it marked a significant cultural milestone at Capitol Cinema. Organised by the Probasee Bengalee Association of New Zealand, the event on January 21 was a historic moment for the association, bringing the captivating world of Bengali cinema to Auckland.
The featured film, ‘Kabuliwala,’ stars the acclaimed three-time National Award-winning actor Mithun Chakraborty in the lead role. Adapted from the 1892 classic short story of the same name by Rabindranath Tagore, the movie was chosen for its cultural significance.
Pavitra Roy, President of the Probasee Bengalee Association of New Zealand, commented, “The movie, which was released in India in December 2023, depicts the timeless theme that love and affection transcends not just borders, but everything else, and humanity is the prime virtue of life.”
