New Zealand has one of the few functioning film industries in the world since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, but things are not so rosy for others working in the entertainment industry – the technicians, set builders and sound and lighting crew for music festivals, theatres and operas.
Graeme Tuckett is best known as a film reviewer, but his day job is looking after the crews on major local film and TV productions. He estimates that at its peak, between 20,000 and 30,000 people were employed in the New Zealand film and television industry.
