Broadcasting Standards Authority releases its annual report and calls for urgent reforms

The annual report for 2022-23 by the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) has been released, urging immediate reforms to update outdated laws and regulations to align with the current broadcasting landscape. The report underscores the need for changes to the 34-year-old legislation that governs the BSA, addressing the challenges posed by the rapidly evolving media environment and aiming for a sustainable media sector.

Stacey Wood, the Chief Executive of the BSA, emphasised the obstacles resulting from the increasingly outdated legislation, stating that fulfilling their mission has become more challenging. Wood remarked, “As audiences migrate at pace from traditional broadcasting to online and digital platforms, increasingly obsolete legislation is making it more difficult to achieve our mission”.
