The Regent Cinema in Dannevirke was filled with a sea of pink as over 100 people gathered for a Barbie movie fun night. However, their purpose extended beyond enjoying the movie that had been the talk of the town in recent months.
Tracey Friend, the organizer, found the movie choice to be kind of fitting as it provided an opportunity to raise funds in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.
When asked about her motivation, Tracey explained that it stemmed from her personal connection to the cause—a family member who had bravely fought an eight-year battle against the disease.
She emphasized the universal impact of cancer, stating that virtually everyone in the room had likely been impacted directly or indirectly. Tracey’s own family member had passed away five years ago but she was a “warrior for women’s rights”.
“I am certain that she would take pride in the fact that we are undertaking this initiative,” Tracey added.
