Sky has launched a new free-to-air channel, Sky Open, on August 23. It will replace Prime and feature a variety of content, including locally produced shows from Sky Originals NZ, Sky Sport news, documentaries, exclusive news, and entertainment. It will also host Sky’s free coverage of the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The service is available on Sky 4 and Freeview 15, and Sky hopes to continue providing “great content” to Kiwis in a way that suits them. Lauren Quaintance, Sky’s head of communications and data, said Sky Open allows Sky to create a distinctive channel identity connected to its platform and channel team. The new look encourages existing and new audiences to embrace the world of sports and entertainment, both locally and internationally. The Sky Open will also broadcast the Rugby World Cup’s opening and final matches live, along with exciting shows, movies, and documentaries.
