Australians who access pirated films and TV shows online are increasingly becoming victims of hackers and scammers, prompting calls for stricter site-blocking legislation. According to an annual survey conducted by Creative Content Australia, 21% of adult Australians regularly access pirated content, despite laws prohibiting websites from hosting the material in violation of copyright. 72% of those who downloaded pirated content had their device hacked, defrauded, or had a virus or ransomware installed on it.
