New Zealand’s screen sector desperate for more crews, training

Many sectors have suffered during the year of Covid-19, but Aotearoa’s screen industry has been thriving. That hasn’t come without its own challenges – although they are challenges that many in the arts sector would love to have.

Crews have been so in-demand that there has not been enough heads to go around at points, and there’s still a lack of consistent training and development, as well as a lack of people coming through and filling those roles.

“It’s been a really tough year,” New Zealand Film Commission chief executive Annabelle Sheehan said at a recent webinar.
